Kayla walked onto the set with a big smirk on her face. She couldn't believe she had finally been cast on a TV show! She was going to be the star of the new Sitcom, "Doggone It!" which was about a family who adopts a dog that takes them on all sorts of crazy adventures.

What was strange about the whole thing is that throughout the whole casting process, no one had actually told her what her role was. But Kayla assumed that she would soon be getting her script and everything would work out just fine.

"Hello! You must be Kayla!" A striking female voice said. Kayla turned and saw a woman in a nice business suit approach her.

"Yes! I am!" Kayla said.

"Hi. I'm Melissa Cramden. Creator of the show. Very glad to have you aboard."

"Nice to meet you, Miss Cramden. It's a pleasure to finally be on TV." Kayla said.

"Well, we're glad you stepped in. After months of searching you were the perfect find for this role." Melissa said.

"Well... about that. What is my role exactly?" Kayla said.

Melissa's face briefly dropped. "No one told you?"

"Uh. No." Kayla said.

"This should be interesting." Melissa said to herself.

"I guess I am too young to be the mother... am I the older sister?"

"No."

"The Next Door Neighbor?"

"No."

"The School Bully?"

"Nope!"

"Well, what could I possibly be?" Kayla asked, before she felt a strange surge flow through her. Suddenly, it was if her sense of smell increased by 100. Every smell was so distinct!"

"At this point, I think it's just better to show you." Melissa said, as she grabbed a mirror from a nearby make-up table.

"What are you talking...about..." Kayla started to sputter as she looked in the mirror. In the middle of her face was a big black dog's nose, surrounded by growing golden fur.

"But I didn't go to make-up...." Kayla said, as she put her hand up to her new nose. When she felt its wet touch, she suddenly shrieked.

"This... this is real! This is a real dog's nose. I've got a dog's nose!" Kayla said, shocked.

"That is all correct." Melissa said.

"I've been cast as the dog!?!?!?" Kayla said, as she looked down to see golden fur starting to grow on her arm.

"Good to see you finally know the truth." Melissa said.

"But... how?" Kayla said, as the fur also started growing on her legs.

"Simple magic, really. Not very complicated." Melissa said.

"Why not just get a real dog to play the role like any SANE person would do?" Kayla said, as she looked back in the mirror and noticed her ears had started to flop over.

"Because real dogs are so hard to train. But you'll be a dog with the soul of a human. You'll look and act like a dog but be able to accomplish any task we ask of you. Because deep within you lies the ability of a human."

"But, I don't want to be a dog. I want to be a BARK." Kayla whined before covering her mouth with her hands. "Did I just BARK BARK?" Kayla covered her mouth again.

"But don't you want to be a star? Who do you think it going to go on The Tonight Show and Good Morning America? Who do you think is going to win all the awards? Who you think is going to be trending on Twitter? It'll be you! Kayla the Wonderdog!" Melissa said.

"I didn't mean it like BARK!" Kayla said, not noticing the tail that had just begun to grow out of her.

"And besides, this is only a temporary arrangement, unless of course you love being a dog so much that you choose to stay that way. You'd be surprised to see how many of our animal actors choose to stay as animals. The Boy that became War Horse is still out there somewhere grazing in the field."

"Wait. Please! I don't want to BARK a BARK!" Kayla said.

"I didn't want to have to resort to this. But..." Melissa turned and grabbed a box of dog treats. "If you are a good dog, I'll give you a treat!"

Suddenly, all of Kayla's complaining stopped. She couldn't help but stare at the treat. For some reason, she wanted it so bad. A long tongue fell out of her mouth as she began to pant.

"Do you want the treat?" Melissa asked.

"Yes! I BARK the Treat." Kayla responded, as her fingers began to shorten.

"Do you want to be a star?" Melissa asked.

"Yes!" I BARK to BARK BARK star!" Kayla said, as her tail grew to full length and wagged furiously.

"Do you want to be a dog?" Melissa asked.

"YES BARK TO BARK DOG BARK BARK BARK" Kayla was going nuts now.

"Good girl. Now sit!" Melissa commanded.

In an instant, Kayla sat on the floor like a good dog would. As she wagged her tail and panted, looking up at Melissa, her body changed so that now she could walk on all fours. Kayla kicked off her shoes and let her back paws hit the floor.

"Here you go!" Melissa said as she threw the treat to Kayla. Kayla caught the treat as her face expanded out a bit, making her a full Golden Retriever, but with Kayla's human clothes still surrounding her.

"See Kayla? You're a natural for the part. Now let's get these silly people clothes off you." Melissa laughed.

Kayla barked in agreement, and wagged her tail some more.

"Places everyone! We've got a show to shoot! And Lana, email The Tonight Show people and let them know Kayla the Wonderdog will be on their show next week!"
